Instrument Technician

 

1. Scope of Responsibilities
Provide support to a team of engineers and designers in carrying out detailed engineering works and provide the necessary technical information for procurement in compliance with tender specifications/data sheets and within budgeted man-hour and project schedules.

2. Primary Duties

 Study engineering documents including the Technical Document Register (TDR), Data Sheets, review specifications Process Data Sheets (PDS), Piping Material Specifications (PMS), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s), Plot plans, General Arrangement (GA) drawings, Review Philosophies, Area Classification Drawings, Fire and Gas Detector Layout Drawings, the Design Basis and other relevant documents.
 Assist Engineers in preparation of Control valve, Safety valve and flowmeter sizing calculations.
 Prepare Instrument Index and Input / Output Lists
 Review and check equipment and material specifications, data sheets, engineering calculations and drawings including Block Diagrams, Equipment system specifications, cable routing, control room layouts, Cause and Effect Diagrams, Loop Diagrams, Functional Logic Diagrams, Wiring Termination Diagrams, Installation Hook-up Drawings, Instrument Plot Plans, Control Panel Drawings, Control/Equipment Room Lay-outs, Cable Tray/Trench Lay-outs, Cable Schedules and Cable Drum Schedules, JB schedules, Interconnection Schedules, Fire/Smoke Detection Lay-out and Alarm Lists and other design and layout calculations and drawings.
 Assist engineers in the preparation of technical inquiry requests (Inquiry Requisitions) to vendors, participate in the technical evaluation of vendor bid offers. Assist in the preparation of Technical Bid Evaluations (TBE), review vendor drawings and documents. Attend vendor seminars when required.
 Assist in the review of plot plans, participate in organizing the issuance of engineering drawings and technical documents for Inter-Discipline Checks (IDC’s).
 Participate in the preparation of Purchase Requisitions for the procurement of equipment and materials.
 Keep current through the study of related technical literature including quality procedures and guidelines.
 Perform related duties as and when directed by Direct Supervisor or Mentor

Assists engineering teams in the data collection, review and preparation of technical documents. No cost/delivery impact.

4. Decision Making Authority
Consults with Supervisor and mentor on all issues related to project execution.

8. Physical Effort and Work Environment
Duties performed in Main Office mostly in air-conditioned surroundings. Occasionally incumbent would require traveling to sites and may occasionally visit vendor workshops.

9. Minimum Job Requirement
Bachelor Degree in Electrical / Instrumentation Engineering with a minimum of 7 years of related petrochemical experience preferable from a background in working for consultancy organizations in the EPC of the Oil and Gas Industry.
